Apple's most popular notebook is the 13-inch MacBook Air and with good reason. It is the cheapest laptop that Apple sells, runs quite well, and is small and light. The 13-inch MacBook Air was one of the first Mac models to use Apple Silicon by the end of 2020. The M1 MacBook Air is an excellent notebook, but at WWDC in June 2022, Apple unveiled a whole new 13-inch MacBook Air with an improved M2 CPU, a fresh design, and numerous welcome new features and enhancements.

Is Apple 13-inch MacBook Air M2 Worth Buying After Dropping Prices

Should You Buy the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch M2 laptop?

Apple began selling the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air in July 2022.

The new MacBook Air has a whole new design, ditching the wedge form in favor of a flat shell that resembles the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros but is much slimmer—in fact, smaller than the previous Air model. The viewing area increased to 13.6 inches as the bezels surrounding the panel shrank.

This model's sole Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports are identical to those of the M1 MacBook Air, however thanks to the inclusion of the MagSafe connection for charging (including rapid charging), they will both be available more frequently. The speakers and microphones are better, and the camera has been upgraded to 1080p with significantly enhanced overall quality.

Must you purchase? Yes!

The price of the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air was reduced when Apple unveiled the 15-inch MacBook Air, so it doesn't actually cost that much more than the previous model. It was formerly $1,199/£1,249 and is currently $1,099/£1,149.

There are several benefits to purchasing this laptop right away, including the powerful processor and improved FaceTime camera. If you need an even bigger battery time, there is no other reason to look elsewhere. The 13-inch M2 MacBook Air is a nice option if you want a low-cost MacBook Air and don't mind that it doesn't have the latest design or an impressive look (honestly, the M2 is plenty for most people).

With the same Magic Keyboard and Force Touch trackpad, two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, passive cooling, and 18-hour battery life, the M2 MacBook Air resembles its predecessor in certain ways. The devices are identical in size and include a 13-inch Retina display, up to 2TB of storage, hardware acceleration of H.264 and HEVC video, and a 30W charger as standard.

Having said that, there is no denying that the M2 MacBook Air has a significant overhaul. It will undoubtedly have a more contemporary appearance because of its consistent thickness, decreased volume and weight, bigger display with narrower borders, and full-height function row.

However, there are also useful enhancements that significantly enhance the user experience in many ways, including the MagSafe connector, quick charging, brighter display, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, and four-speaker sound system.  Given that the M1 MacBook Air was introduced by Apple only almost three years ago, it will be worthwhile to choose the M2 model in order to be future-proof.

For these reasons, it is unquestionably worthwhile to invest an extra $100 to get the M2 MacBook Air because it has a fresh design, improved performance, and all-around upgrades as opposed to the M1 model.

However, if cost is a concern, the M1 MacBook Air is still a very powerful device that bears many similarities to the most recent design. The M1 processor is still fairly powerful and should provide enough performance for most users.  Users should assess how much they would use particular features before upgrading from the M1 MacBook Air to the M2 model. For most users, the M2 chip is unlikely to surpass the M1, but for specific operations, it may provide significant improvements. For instance, the M2 may be a far more potent tool for pros thanks to its ProRes encode and decode engine, 100GB/s memory bandwidth, and 24GB memory option.

Users of M1 MacBook Air who require more memory than 16GB, frequently engage in video chats, or even those who are prone to inadvertently yanking on their charging cord should think about upgrading. Switching from the M1 MacBook Air to the M2 model is more beneficial than making many other generation-over-generation upgrades due to the innovations of the new design, M2 processor, four-speaker system, bigger display, and quicker charging. Additionally, merely because of its size, upgrading to the 15-inch model is a good upgrade.

Instead of 2020's M1 model, the M2 MacBook Air would be more appropriate for people who are upgrading from a prior device or are first-time MacBook Air purchasers. However, the M2 MacBook Air is a far more alluring overall package with substantial advancements in nearly every area, making it a worthwhile purchase for virtually everyone.

Apple 13-inch MacBook Air M2 Dropping Prices and Future Trends

The cost of the 13-inch MacBook Air M2 has just decreased somewhat thanks to Apple. You will now save $100 as it now begins at $1,100 rather than $1,200. In contrast, the pre-order price for the 15-inch MacBook Air M2 model is $1,300, and its debut is scheduled for June 2023. So, with a look at the top MacBook Air M2 offers, we've got your back. You can also choose MacBook refurbished models if you want a lower price because, after a reduction in brand new MacBook Air M2 pricing, everyone can expect the same for refurbished MacBook devices.
